Fueling the future of
sustainable aviation
Starting point
A Finnish deep-tech company Liquid Sun needed a strategic partner to help translate their scientific breakthrough into a globally recognized success story. One that would drive funding, key partnerships, and a leading position in the emerging sustainable aviation fuel market.
Liquid Sun had developed a groundbreaking technology capable of converting captured carbon into fossil-free hydrocarbons – a raw material used across pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, and energy. As an early-stage, engineer-led startup, the company made an unusual choice from day one: to build its business with communications as a core growth driver, not an afterthought.

Challenge
With EU regulation driving explosive growth in the eSAF market aviation emerged as the clearest opportunity for growth. But Liquid Sun faced a common early-stage dilemma: strong technology, but no international visibility, commercial credibility, or funding.
We needed to build communications that revealed the technology’s potential across industries, and use that same communications work to help secure the funding the startup needed to survive its earliest, most fragile phase.
SOLUTION
We built a phased, audience-first communications strategy focused on owned channels and earned media, designed to build credibility with investors and the industry, spark interest among ecosystem partners, and help the public understand the technology behind the green transition. This also meant shaping their voice and brand identity: how they spoke, what they spoke about, and where they showed up. From there, we built Liquid Sun’s social and media presence from the ground up and ran targeted outreach mapped to their most important markets.

Results
In 2024, Liquid Sun closed a record €8 million funding round backed by Voima Ventures and launched a pilot project unique in scale for Europe, partnering with Finnair, ABB, Fortum, and Finavia. Media coverage far exceeded expectations, generating over 200 mentions across Finnish and international outlets, from Canada to China, as journalists tracked the technology’s journey from prototype to pilot. Liquid Sun also formed international partnerships, and recruited top talent from around the world to support its growth.
The company was named one of the EU’s 10 most promising early-stage climate tech startups and was selected as the only European eSAF startup in IAG’s Accelerator program. Communications-led growth didn’t just build Liquid Sun’s story – it helped establish Finland as a serious contender in the global race for sustainable energy leadership.
